As we’ve started 2019, we are turning over a new leaf in fashion. NYC fashion week just happened, and with it comes changes in the future of this year’s fashion. Fashion shows influence brands across the world in color, style, beauty, and textile designs and materials. Of course, the basic staples of every wardrobe are here to stay, but there are some fun accents and colors that are coming into fashion this year! After reading some of my favorite fashion magazines (Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar) here’s a short summary of what you’ll see (and most likely wear) this year!
Neutrals
Neutrals are looking to be very popular in 2019. The soft, natural tones look good on every skin tone, and often look classy, elegant, and high end. There’s a benefit to having lots of neutral colors in your wardrobe. The first is, everything matches. This makes choosing an outfit SO much easier and efficient! This is perfect for anyone who needs to look pulled together and doesn’t have much time. Another reason is, neutrals go with almost anything. This makes it easier to try one or two more vibrant, adventurous styles, while not making your outfit over the top. Here are some examples of neutral outfits I found on Pinterest! You can find my inspiration board of neutral inspired outfits here!
Neons
This style is just about the opposite! Neon colors are bold, bright, and make a statement. Recently, lime green neon came into the fashion scene, with the Kardashians and other celebrities bringing it into their wardrobe. But in NY fashion week this year, vibrant hues of yellow, green, red, and orange walked onto the runway. With this style, you can either embrace it full on with a full outfit look, or you can take a slightly more subtle approach with accent pieces paired with neutrals. Here are a few inspiration images from my Pinterest board!
Utility Dressing
This is a fashion trend I am SO down for. According to Elle magazine, this is where fashion meets function. Here you can “expect to see an abundance of khaki, patch pockets, cotton drill, and cargo pants”. Here are some inspo images for this practical, casual style!
Pleats & Lines
According to fashion experts, ruffles are on their way out, replaced by geometric pleats and sleek lines. A more tailored, sleek look was common at NYC fashion week, and we’ll likely see more pieces inspired by this in our home stores soon. Here are some inspiration images for this look!
Living Coral
Back in January, Pantone announced that the color of the year 2019 was Living Coral. Pantone is known around the world as the global authority on color. According to Pantone’s website, living coral “embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment. In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media… we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engagement nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity”. I don’t know about you, but this is a color and message I can stand behind! Of course, this color appeared at NY Fashion week, and will be showing up all year long in disciplines from graphic design, to fashion, to technology, to photography. Here are some inspiration outfit photos for this warm, happy hue!
