Being pregnant has been a VERY interesting experience. It comes with a lot of excitement, anxiety, and bewilderment on how my body is changing! It’s incredible to watch, and sometimes I feel like a goddess, while most other days I feel like a waddling blueberry.
I knew I wanted to document this special time and transition in Chris and I’s lives. It’s been a tender experience working together to prepare for our little one. I am so grateful that our baby is healthy and strong so far, and that things are going well. We consider ourselves so lucky!
To document this time, I wanted to make it really special. I wanted to feel beautiful, because most days when you struggle to get up off the couch because your belly is so big, it can be hard to feel beautiful 😂 Although other days, you are so in awe of your body and that little life that’s growing that you feel like the most beautiful person in the world!
The inspiration for the session came from a few different sources. I’ve also always been inspired by maternity images you see in editorial magazines such as Vogue – they are truly works of art. We wanted it to feel romantic and and celebrate Chris and I’s relationship, as well as our excitement for the new addition to our family.
This was a tall order, but I knew the person to ask – my friend and fellow photographer Kirsten, at Kirsten Nicole Photography! She specializes in product and fashion work, which made our maternity session a bit unique, but her experience in those fields helped us get the editorial vibe we were looking for.
Kirsten did an incredible job! We went to the Utah State Capitol on a rainy morning, and the setting was perfect. We used prisms and silver reflectors to achieve the lighting and composition effects we wanted. It was such a fun, creative experience, and I left feeling rejuvenated and happy!
We are so incredibly excited to meet our little boy! I can’t wait to share these photos with him, and let him know how much his parents love him and how excited we were for him to come. I am beyond grateful for Chris. His love, strength, and support has helped me through some of life’s most difficult trials. He helps me become a better person every day, but also loves me just the way I am – flaws and all. He is also SO much fun to be around, and he is going to be the best dad.
Here are the beautiful photos – huge thank you to everyone who made it possible 💛
